Panel Content Rating

NCAS events use the FUR rating system.

F is for Family Friendly.
These events are appropriate for all ages. This means the panel will have family friendly language and content.

  • No curse words are to be spoken during the panel.

  • No sexual innuendos / content are to be mentioned during the panel.

  • No substance use mentioned during the event.

  • Discussion of illegal activities for the purposes of education is allowed. For example, our programming team would allow panels such as "Famous Outlaws of the Wild West," "How Phishing Works and How Not to Get Hooked," and "It's Illegal to Carry an Ice Cream Cone in Your Back Pocket and Other Silly Laws." However, we do not allow 1) specific instructions on how to commit crimes, 2) incriminating yourself or others by discussing involvement in illegal activities.

  • Cartoonish violence is allowed (no gore, think Three Stooges, Looney Tunes, ect.).

U is for Underage Caution.

These events have some content that may not be appropriate for those under 13. This means there could be some strong language, crude humor, brief legal substance references, or graphic violence mentioned.

  • All content from Family Friendly panels is allowed.

  • All curse words are allowed, but we do ask that usage be limited to no more than three times.

  • Sexual innuendos are allowed (Disney adult humor, that's what she said, eyebrow wiggles at the right moment, ect.) within reason during the panel.

  • No explicit sexual content is to be mentioned during the panel.

  • No illicit substance use mentioned during the event.

  • Explicit violence can be discussed within reason.

R is for Restricted

(Commonly referred to as After Dark or AD events). These events have content that is not suitable for those under the age of 18. An ID check will be done at the door to enter these events.

  • All content from Underage Caution panels is allowed.

  • All curse words are allowed. (Ass, bitch, bastard, cocksucker, crap, cunt, damn, dick, fuck, pussy, shit, slut, whore, or variations of the like.)

  • Educational content involving sex, kinks, etc. is allowed. Panelists and members may engage in reasonable demonstrations. For example, we would allow the panel "Dos and Do Knots, Safety in Shibari" with hands-on experience of proper safety practices. Sex and in-person nudity are strictly prohibited.

  • Violence can be discussed and fake violence shown.

  • Legal substance use (alcohol/tobacco/marijuana) can be mentioned if the panelist is 21 years of age or older. However, it cannot be the main discussion point for the panel.

  • Instructional panels discussing alcohol related topics are allowed if there is no consumption. For example, a panel on “How to Make Mead” would be allowed.

  • Panels or events involving the consumption of alcohol by the panelists are permitted. All panelists must be at least 21 years of age and must provide government issued ID to programming staff to verify their age prior to the panel. The programming team will reach out to discuss the feasibility of the event in coordination with the venue.

R+ is for 21 only events.

These events have content that is not suitable for those under 21. Alcohol, tobacco, and hemp derived cannabinoids are all controlled substances that are illegal for those under 21 in the state of North Carolina.

  • All content from Restricted panels is allowed.

  • Panels or events involving the consumption of alcohol by non-panelists are only allowed under certain circumstances. The Programming Team will reach out to discuss the feasibility of the event in coordination with the venue. Panels discussing alcohol related topics are allowed if nothing is being consumed.

  • Tobacco related events are only allowed as long as nothing is being burned or smoked. Smoking of any kind is not allowed inside the building. Smoking can be done in designated smoking areas around the venue, however, we are unable to schedule official events outside due to them being outside of the events space. Tobacco products may be brought into the room but cannot be indulged in. If the panel meets this condition it can be approved. (Example: Cigar Smoking Meet Up would not be allowed inside because they are smoking and if it is held outside it is out of our event space. Do You Vape Bro? a panel discussing the various modifications you can do on your custom vape box would be allowed.)

  • Hemp Derived Cannabinoids (CBD, Delta 8 THC, Delta 9 THC ((if less than .3%)), Delta 10 THC, HHC, THC-A, THC-O, THC-P, THC-V) are legal in NC for those over the age of 21+ (CBD is 18+ but for our purposes we will lump all cannabinoids together for simplicity). Smoking of any kind is not allowed inside the building. Smoking can be done in designated smoking areas around the venue, however,  we are unable to schedule official events outside due to them being outside of the events space. Due to the complicated legality of the products we do ask that no products or paraphernalia be brought into the space or indulged in during the event. Glass pieces that are non-smokables such as figurines or accessories are allowed. If the panel meets this condition it can be approved. (Example: Smoke Circle would not be approved because it involves actively smoking. Stoner Meet n Greet would be allowed as long as they follow the restrictions. Blow Me Away Glass Art Show would be allowed as long as the restrictions are met.)

All panelists are required to follow our Code of Conduct during the event or panel.

Consequences:

All warnings will be given by a member of Programming either verbally during the panel, which we will write down for record keeping, or after the panel via our official contact method for the panelist.

There are two types of warnings, Light and Serious. Light warnings are given for reasons the Programming Team has decided are lesser offenses because they can happen by accident or as slips of the tongue. Serious warnings are offenses that cannot be overlooked and will need to be addressed.

If a single panel has three or more Light Warnings it will result in the Panelist being reviewed by the Programming Team to determine if they are allowed to host future panels at NCAS events. If one or more Serious Warnings are given to a Panelist they will be reviewed by our Programming Team on their eligibility to host future panels at NCAS events. If the Code of Conduct is broken during a panel the incident will be reported to NCAS Security.

Reasons Light Warnings are Given:

  • If a Panelist introduces content of behavior into their panel that is at the next content rating (U Rated Content in an F Rated Panel, R Rated Content in a U Rated Panel).

  • Being more than 10 minutes late to run their panel.

  • Keeping control of the room either with noise level or rowdiness.

Reasons Serious Warnings are Given:

  • If a Panelist introduces content or behavior into their panel that jumps two content rating levels (R Rated Content in an F Rated Panel).

  • Not showing up for their panel.

  • Disrespecting any attendee, volunteer, or staff member during the event.

  • Breaking our Code of Conduct.

  • Not being sober during the panel
